Description of the Bike Benefit
The bike benefit is a tax-exempt fringe benefit of up to 1,200 euros per year per employee. The most common practice is to deduct the taxable value of the bike benefit from the employee's gross salary, making it cost-effective for the employer to provide this benefit.
The employer is responsible for the acquisition of the company bike, and the easiest way to do this is through leasing services.
The company bike is intended for the employee's free use, both for leisure and commuting purposes.
The benefit applies to both regular and electric-assist bicycles.
At the end of the rental period, the employee has the right to purchase the bike at a discounted price. Since the capital value of the company bike is almost fully amortized during the rental period, it is practically always advantageous for the employee to acquire the bike.
